Visit from Councilman Parks
On Saturday August 25, 2007 Opportunities for Learning in South Los Angeles
welcomed Honored Guest Councilman Bernard Parks. On his tour of the center he observed students engaged in Small
Group Instruction and the traditional Academic Recovery methods used at OFL.
Many parents were present to share the child’s life changing experiences that
have been credited to their enrollment at Opportunities for Learning. Community
issues were discussed and parents expressed the need to have more schools like
OFL as a safe haven for students who are dismissed from traditional schools
with very few options. The students were able to share personal stories on how
Opportunities for Learning and the teachers have given them a new hope and a renewed
outlook on life. Overall, the visit opened the doors of communication between
our school and the community, with the hopes of more to come.
