What the Numbers Say

More than a Diploma

  • We work around student’s schedules

Students can enroll any weekday of the year; there is no need to wait for classes to start or the semester to begin. Once enrolled, students, parents, and teachers partner to create a class schedule that respects and meets the needs of students.

  • Diverse class formats for every learner

In addition to independent study courses, students have the option and are encouraged to participate in small group and online instruction. Math, English, and Sciences are taught in small groups, free from distractions. These diverse class formats incorporate collaborative projects that encourage critical thinking and social interaction while maintaining a safe environment.

We have the support students need

Students work independently at a pace tailored to their ability and learning level, as teachers provide individualized attention and guidance. The low student-teacher ratio allows each student to meet one-on-one with their teacher to discuss homework, course packets, and testing. Student Advisors, Counselors, and FREE Tutors provide students with the knowledge and support they need to conquer tough subjects and achieve their dreams. Tutorials for the CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam) are also offered on the weekends and after school to help students ace the exam.

    Help students to be college-ready

Post-secondary and career counseling is provided to every student. Juniors and seniors attend FREE college tours throughout the year and learn what to consider when selecting a school including size, major and minor programs, clubs, location, and campus life. Students take part in workshops that expose them to application processes like obtaining references and applying for financial aid.

  • OFL exposed and prepared me for a more college-like environment and study habit skills.

  • What distinguishes our schools from all others is the quality of teacher – student engagement that takes place every day in our centers.

    John Hall, OFL Founder
  • I love OFL! The teachers are great and so very helpful! There are so many wonderful opportunities to take with field trips, sports, and to make new friends!

  • As a teacher at OFL, I am lucky enough to spend every day with talented fellow educators, and with the students who inspire us. Being able to work with my students in small-group settings allows me to get to know them personally, respond to their unique needs and interests, and foster a classroom environment of openness and trust.

Rachel McInnis, OFL Small Group Instruction (SGI) Teacher
  • Opportunities for Learning changed my daughter’s life when she transferred there halfway through her Junior year. Before coming to OFL, she was failing most of her classes, and was fed-up with the other students she had to deal with, being disrespectful to the teachers and being generally rude at her other school. Once she passed her first class, which took 5 weeks, her confidence exploded. She worked very hard and graduated on time. OFL was the perfect choice for her.

  • Our focus has always been to work with students who seek an alternative to a structured classroom, where they can be mentored by a teacher and take more responsibility for their own educational experience.

    Pam Hall, OFL Founder
  • It is awesome! It is a carefree and friendly environment. I don’t feel the stress that I felt at my previous high school. My schedule is flexible which good for me. I enjoy the SGI classes and the all the teachers at my school are very helpful and friendly.

  • I had the best teacher, Molly Sircher, who motivated me to do my absolute best. Thanks to her support and motivation, I obtained my high school diploma one year in advance. I will never forget the great times I had at OFL, and I certainly won’t forget the staff, especially Molly. Thanks to OFL, I enjoyed my last year of high school.

  • I love the school and the way it works, it has me setting higher goals for myself. I love being able to redo a lesson if I don’t understand it instead of just moving forward.

  • Whenever I got stuck on something, my math teacher would sit there and go over it with me or explain it piece by piece on the whiteboard. I feel like my education is way more important to the people here than anywhere else.

    Student, Opportunities For Learning
  • All the teachers here are very friendly and make an effort to make you feel comfortable and actually give you help. I am so happy I am attending OFL because I learned so much through SGI classes and fun field trips.

    Student, Opportunities For Learning
  • I actually would highly recommend students to go to this school, because it’s bully free, it’s not a peer pressuring environment. All the staff are really nice, and if you work hard you can catch up on credits quickly, and or graduate early.
